NMSU is implementing regular recurring program review in the 2014-15 academic year. Provost Dan Howard detailed the value and components of program review.  Program Review Agenda 10-3-2014   Program Review Invitees 10-3-2014   Program Review Notes

The primary objective of review is evaluation of overall program effectiveness.   Program Review Summary – October 2014   NMSU colleges are actively engaged in the definition of the data, criterion and format to be used for the self-study of academic programs. The program review process will include an independent review team’s assessment of strengths and weaknesses, and recommendations for program improvement. Accreditation will serve as the mechanism for review for programs externally accredited. Review of programs is well aligned with NMSU’s Vision 2020 Strategic Plan:

Vision 2020 Goal 1-Academics & Graduation     Provide stellar programs, instruction, and services to achieve timely graduation

Provide strong academic programs through continuous innovation and evaluation

  • Colleges will complete periodic, in-depth program reviews for programs not externally accredited
  • NMSU Library will complete a program-level assessment of collections, resources, and services as a component of all program reviews
  • Dean and Department Head will agree to recommended actions, innovations, and timeline, and progress will be evaluated annually

Vision 2020 Goal 5-Resource Stewardship     Optimize resources to effectively support teaching, research, and service

Provide effective and efficient non-academic programs through continuous evaluation

  • Non-academic units and programs will complete periodic, in-depth program reviews
  • Department and Program Directors will identify recommended actions, innovations, and timeline, and progress will be evaluated annually
